According to the ACCME, when there is commercial support of any kind, there must be a written agreement that fulfills the following five requirements:
- The LOA must itemize how the provider plans to use the commercial support in the development and presentation of the CME activity.
- It must itemize the organizations involved in the activity (i.e., joint providers, education partners, manager).
- The LOA should specify the organizational name of the commercial interest(s) that supplied the funds.
- It needs to specify what funds or in-kind services will be given by the commercial supporter to support the provider’s activity.
- The LOA needs to be signed by the commercial interest and the accredited provider prior to the activity taking place.
