Welcome to the July edition of AOE Compliance Connection, AOE’s monthly newsletter. In this month’s newsletter, we are happy to share helpful information about some ACCME updates and an upcoming in-person workshop specifically designed for those new to the world of CE. We also continue our fun summer series where we take you behind the scenes to meet some of AOE’s team members to learn about why they love their work (and to share a fun fact or two about themselves)! Make sure you and your team follow our weekly compliance tips on Twitter and Facebook to keep your compliance skills honed. As always, email us at inquire@aoeconsulting.com with any questions – we are here to serve you!
CE in the Community: ACCME Academy
There is a lot happening in the world of the ACCME right now and AOE is here to help you keep track of what all is going on! Between a new training in PARS (Program and Activity Reporting System), an update to CME Passport, an upcoming accreditation workshop, and a reminder about the ACCME 2022 Meeting, there is a lot going on at the ACCME.
Learner Credit Data Entry in PARS
Part of the November 2021 launch of the new, improved PARS was a series of features that were designed to make reporting learning credit data more efficient (and simpler!) for providers. The reduction of physicians’ reporting burden is an important part of better serving the CE community and increasing the value of CE as a whole. With this in mind, the ACCME is hosting two webinars on exactly how to report learner data. Registration is now open here:
CME Passport Provider Mark
For those providers who are already reporting learner credit data for their CE activities, the ACCME has created a CME Passport Provider Mark to facilitate promotion of these activities. Providers can download and use the mark to promote the activities and, as the ACCME states, “demonstrate your commitment to reducing the reporting burden for your learners”. More information about the CME Passport Provider Mark is available here.
Register Now: The ACCME 2022 Accreditation Workshop
Registration is now open for the August 4-5 ACCME 2022 Accreditation Workshop, specifically designed as an in-person professional development opportunity for those who are newcomers to CE. More details about what to expect at this conference appear later in this newsletter, and on the ACCME site here.
ACCME 2022 Meeting Recordings
As a reminder, the ACCME 2022 Meeting (held in April 2022) registration includes recordings of many of the sessions (keynotes, mini-plenaries, and Inspire & Teach) as part of the registration fee. Those recordings will be available for meeting registrants on-demand here until August 31, 2022.
AOE’s Team: Get to Know Us!
The entire team at AOE is dedicated to helping our clients and serving you with our expertise and experience in every interaction. Over the summer, we are introducing you to the faces that are hard at work behind the scenes at AOE. Last month you met Melissa Marick, and this month you’ll learn more about three additional AOE team members (including some pretty fun facts about each one!).
Renea Marin, CHCP, Program Manager
In general, what do you most enjoy about working in the world of compliance and CE?
“Compliance can be complex and multi-layered, and I like that I can help and support my partners by taking a bit of the burden off of their minds!”
What is one shift/change in CE you’d like to see in the future?
“Performance improvement is so important! I’d like to see more education directly tied to this. Often, providers find it intimidating that PI activities may require a lot of resource input, when in reality the process can be efficient and streamlined making these types of activities more accessible.”
A fun fact about you:
“When I was in college, I won a free trip to Mexico by winning a rock, paper, scissors tournament at my college.”
Sarah Porter, CHCP, Program Manager
What is a recent project or project type that has really excited you?
“I enjoy finding solutions! I have recently enjoyed working with organizations to identify areas of program improvement and corresponding solutions that meet the organization’s need(s).”
What is one shift/change in CE you’d like to see in the future?
“I think there is a lot of opportunity to move away from traditional educational formats and incorporate formats that better meet learners’ needs.”
A fun fact about you:
“I recently had identical twin girls born in early March!”
Carlye Armstrong, CHCP, Director of Operations
What do you most enjoy about working in the world of compliance and CE?
“I most enjoy long-term work with our clients. Some of the most rewarding work I’ve been involved in has been to work with a group with compliance struggles and oftentimes being placed on “probation” then working with them through a progress report to Accreditation status and eventually (through our long-term partnership) seeing them through to Distinction or Commendation accreditation status. It is so worth all the time and work to see things come full circle.”
What is a recent project or project type that has really excited you?
“Recently, I’m enjoying working with groups who are seeking initial accreditation. I enjoy working through each milestone along the journey to assist them in becoming provisionally accredited.”
A fun fact about you:
“I hate odd numbers. My temperature, volume, etc. settings must always be set on an even number!”
CE Community: Upcoming Accreditation Workshop
New to the world of CE? Feeling overwhelmed by the learning curve? Good news: Registration is now open for the August 4-5 ACCME 2022 Accreditation Workshop, specifically designed as an in-person professional development opportunity for those who are newcomers to CE.
Hosted in Chicago, the ACCME 2022 Accreditation Workshop will include plenty of breakout group sessions and face-to-face conversations with mentors, ACCME staff members, and colleagues and an in-depth exploration of the Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited CE. You’ll learn how to meet the ACCME’s expectations and be supplied with plenty of resources to guide you. Conversations will be dedicated to topics like learner engagement, addressing diversity in CE, developing faculty, considering Commendation, and including MOC in your activity design.
