Why does the new Menu of Criteria for Accreditation with Commendation include a sliding scale?

The short answer to this question is “flexibility”.  The ACCME has expressed a desire to accommodate providers of all sizes, and to “create flexibility, reflect the diversity of the CME community, and offer a pathway for all CME provider types to achieve Accreditation with Commendation.”  As you can see by looking at the standards column of each criteria, there are different measurements based on providers’ program size.  A provider with fewer reported activities will need to supply fewer activity examples to achieve compliance with any given criterion.
